The main purpose of this project is to balance the consumption of gas , to store natural gas in underground structures, optimize gas storage for superior winter consumption and to prevent the disturbances made when problems occur in upstream production and transfer system.
In warmer seasons of the year, where the consumption rate of natural gas is lower than production rate, the excess gas will be stored in underground reservoirs and conversely drawn back from the reservoirs during the colder seasons and injected to the transfer system. The storage of gas plan consist of 3 project: 1- Yort shah project 2-Serajeh project 3-Talkhe project
2-1 Geographical locations and action
2-1-1 Yort shah project
Yort shah is located at about 70 km north of Tehran, in Varamin area. the feasibility study stage has been carried out earlier. The second stage which is programmed in this project consist of developing the reservoirs for natural gas storage in 3 phases. At the moment performance of phase 1&2 and the supervision of the third phase are given to a French company, SUFERGAS. Phase 1 has been started and consist of 3D seismic operation, drilling 2 test wells, integrated reservoir study and basic engineering studies on surface facilities.
2-1-2 Serajeh project
Serajeh reservoir is a gas/condensate reservoir which is located at 40 km east of Qom city. The first stage studies consisting feasibility studies have been done earlier and according to these studies the second stage is defined, consisting 2 phases, one for discharging the regional gas and the second for gas injection and storage. The first phase is undertaken by N.I.O.C.
2-1-3 Talkheh project
Talkheh structure is located south east of Tehran in the central desert area. About 40 years ago some discoveries for oil were carried out but due to lack of economical feasibility, the development was stopped. In recent years and from the natural gas storage point of view the reuse of this structure was considered. Therefore, 2D seismic operations was performed and feasibility study is recommended. The present project consists of 3D seismic operations, work over of available well, drilling of 3 new wells, reservoir studies and basic engineering studies on surface facilities.
